Striking Back On Nature, 2011 – ongoing projects
Projects involving nature as material, exploring the aesthetic consequences and impact of the Anthropocene on the world that we believe we know.
Prompted by the political and general discussions about climate change as reported in the press, and by discussions about the Anthropocene, I and Australian artist Bjorn Godwin have launched a range of experiments to explore and challenge these issues, all using nature as material. The objective is to observe how natural materials grow and change their growth strategies in their attempts at bypassing the obstacles to natural growth interjected by us. The project unfolds itself in a series of initiatives and is still ongoing. Each sub-project explores the aesthetic consequences of the Anthropocene and its impact on the world we think we know.
Medium: plants, trees, seeds, plastic, tar, feathers, plaster, string and more.
